Cheboygan County
Cheboygan County sits at the top of the Lower Peninsula on Lake Huron, near the Mackinac Bridge, with the city of Cheboygan as its seat. The town’s downtown reflects its 19th-century lumber-era prosperity in solid brick storefronts, many of which now need repointing after more than a century of Great Lakes winters. The county’s position at the northern tip of the Lower Peninsula means longer, colder winters and more freeze-thaw cycles than counties further south, which is the main reason chimney and masonry repair calls here run heavier per building than in milder parts of the state.
